About

Primarily a knitter for 30 years, it wasn’t until I taught myself crochet that I started to become fascinated with freeform crochet and hyperbolic crochet forms.

Inspired by the Institute for Figuring and the many fiber art coral reefs that were exhibited around the world, I began thinking of a way that I could create my own coral reefs and display them in an artistically pleasing way.

It was in 2017 that I happened to go on a meditative walk along a beach in Washington State and hit upon the idea of warping a stretched canvas and using it as a foundation for freeform and hyperbolic fiber art.

After creating two coral reef canvases of healthy reefs and working on one of a bleached reef, I decided to move ashore to create “Deception Pass”, the view from one of the hiking trails at Deception Pass State Park in Washington State. In 2020 after winning the Emerging Artist award through the Northern Arts Council, I began Hegira, my biggest canvas yet.

Now that I have embarked on this journey of seeing the world as a challenge to master and express in knitting, crochet, weaving and spinning, there is never a dull moment.

When time permits, I will be posting patterns for various creations over on Ravelry.
